| Notice to Discontinue Service to West Pennsboro |
To the Residents
of West Pennsboro Township:
The Union Fire Company Rural Service deeply regrets to announce that it will soon discontinue response to any emergencies in West Pennsboro Township. We provided you and your family with four crucial pieces of emergency assistance: an Engine/Ladder Truck, Tanker Truck, Brush Truck, and highly trained volunteer firefighters to staff the apparatus.
Since our founding in 1789, the Union Fire Company has provided emergency response service to the citizens of West Pennsboro. Working on an automatic dispatch basis for assistance, we have answered calls in conjunction with the West Pennsboro Township Fire Company. Together, we have worked well to protect your homes, families, businesses, and farms.
The Union Fire Company specializes in rural service. These resources include a tanker truck for areas without fire hydrants, a brush truck for fires on farms, fields and forest areas, and a longstanding reputation of unwavering service.
However, the Township Supervisors have decided to end our relationship over a disagreement of funding for a yearly stipend of only $2,500 or less than $0.75 per resident. These funds aided in maintenance costs, equipment upgrades, fuel, and firefighter training incurred by the Union Fire Company to provide top-level service to you.
Despite these changes, the Union Fire Company Rural Service will continue to offer its water hauling services to fill swimming pools and cisterns for the West Pennsboro Township residents.
The Union Fire Company would like to thank the past Township Supervisors and residents who have supported and have helped our cause. Additionally, we considered it a pleasure working in conjunction with the West Pennsboro Township Fire Company firefighters.
Thank you,
The Officers of the Union Fire Company
