Length of Service – 53 years 9 months.

Career – Foreman(Chief), Assistant Foreman, Chief Hose Director, Driver at Cumberland Fire Company. Chief, Assistant Chief, Captain, Vice President, Apparatus Committee, Driver at the Union Fire Company. 9-1-1 Dispatcher/Supervisor, Fire Communications Supervisor, Operations Manager at Cumberland County Department of Public Safety for 41 years (Retired).

Education – Associate Degree in Police Science.

Why Joined – Family tradition. 4th Generation in the service. All generations very active as officers and drivers since early 1900’s in Carlisle and Harrisburg. Mike Smith (career), Charlie Snoddy (career), Jack Sheaffer, John Sheaffer Sr., and myself.

Most Memorable Fires – Cumberland Fire House fire in 1974 – Pomfret Street Apartments fire 1971 – Strand Theatre fire 1972– Fertilizer Plant fire on Spring Garden Street 1973 – Mill Race Court Apartments fire 1978 top the list.

Awards – Chiefs Award 2003 Presidents Award 2003. Several Awards for driving the most relief shifts.
