Box 14 was pulled (South and East) bringing a response from all the Borough Companies. Fire was found to be at the large pavilion at the Letort Park. Apparatus access is only off of Pomfret Street and there were (still isn't) a reasonably close fire hydrant nearby. Engines drafted from the Letort Spring during the fire. I have no idea which apparatus was parked where as I was walking to my school patrol spot probably with Mike Newcomer and did not have time to run over and spectate. I do remember the huge column of black smoke.
An identical pavilion sits there today.
This is one of the few times the Letort was utilized in the Borough for water. The only other ones I recall were the Ice House Fire, Fertilizer Plant Fire, Tidy Car Fire, and Bartoli Fire.
