March 4, 2026

..March 4, 1956, the new Rural Pumper arrives at the station.

1956 Ward LaFrance Fireball with a 500 GPM Pump and a 500 Gallon Booster Tank. Powered by a 331 cubic inch Chrysler FirePower Hemi engine.

This engine was the busiest piece of fire equipment in the County during its time in service. The first due response area was huge with some of the area Township companies not in existance yet.
This engine was ran hard and saw a mega load of fire.

It met its demise in a crash at High and East Streets in 1969.

The "Ward" had a unique sounding twin tone siren and a straight thru exhaust system. As it cruised through tone on one of its many runs, there was no doubt which piece it was.
